Day 26 - Strike Update October 8, 2024

Today, we completed a second day of mediated talks with Boeing. The company was hell-bent on standing on the non-negotiated offer that was sent directly to the media on September 23, 2024. They refused to propose any wage increases, vacation/sick leave accrual, progression, ratification bonus, or the 401k Match/SCRC Contribution. They also would not reinstate the defined benefit pension.

By refusing to bargain the offer sent to the media, the company made it harder to reach an agreement.

Your negotiating committee attempted to address multiple priorities that could have led to an offer we could bring to a vote, but the company wasn’t willing to move in our direction.

Through the mediator, Boeing has now withdrawn its September 23 offer.

When we surveyed our members on that offer, the response was overwhelming - those who participated said it was not good enough.

Holding the line and picketing is more important than ever. Members are doing what it takes to weather this strike to stand on principle.

Your negotiating committee remains ready to continue mediated or direct talks.

We will work on a survey in the next week to ask our members where the priorities are. Your voice is more critical now more than ever.

We will prevail.

"One day longer, One day stronger" is more than just a catchphrase. It's our battle cry that we must all use as we stand together, united and defiant against one of the most powerful companies in the world.

Stand strong, brothers and sisters. We are all in this together. Boeing may have started this fight, but the Machinists will finish it.

In Unity, Your Union Negotiating Committee

I don't know why there wasn't a vote on September 27? I wanted a vote, but now nothing to vote!

A pension, will attract and retain talent. That should be at the company's core, for a talented work force into the future, instead of the "anybody can do this" mind set.

Don't be fooled that there will not be another housing crisis, or covid that will bring down your 401k.

It WILL happen in the future. It may even be AI that does it.

I’m curious, what the company will do when they get the workforce they so desperately want, the $21/hr Subway Sandwich Artist. We all know the company believes anyone can build an airplane.

Maybe instead of beating the dead pension to death again and again… refer to Einstein’s statement on insanity, perhaps the conversation should move towards profit sharing to really make Union members vested in this disturbingly dysfunctional company.

Time to think out of the box.

Time for our Union to educate the members on what it takes for a company to fund a pension.

I will walk the line until we get what is rightly deserved and I believe the company is shady at best. If the company wants…

I agree. I do not believe in any shape way or form that Boeing will support a pension again. I feel for the people that lost out on this as their retirement. There can be compensations to alleviate this loss though. I believe focus should now be towards a fully supported back up plan so to speak. These negotiations are never gonna be 100% in either direction. Is the pension holding the most weight for a suitable contract? So what are we fighting for if we know they are not supporting a pension? I will always support my brothers and sisters by being by there side on the line and I understand their anger, but I also feel we shoul…
